Visiting Margaux in the Medoc wine region of Bordeaux

I wanted to give you a taste of what it is like to go wine tasting in Bordeaux. To visit the chateaux and do a tour. This is not intended to be an ultimate guide to wine tasting in Bordeaux. I’m not a wine expert so I haven’t given any tasting notes. Bordeaux is the largest fine-wine producing regions in the world, so I had to narrow down the area I was going to cover, so I chose the appellation of Margaux on the left bank of the Gironde Estuary.

You can read all about my visit in the article is Visiting Chatau Margaux worth it?

Can you visit Château Margaux? The short answer is not easily; but the good news is that the Margaux appellation near Bordeaux has some of the best wine tasting experiences in France, and most of them are open to visitors. In this video I visit five châteaux in the Margaux appellation, including Château Margaux itself, Château Kirwan, Château Marquis de Terme, Château Marquis d’Alesme and Château Paveil de Luze.

I’m a wine enthusiast rather than an expert, so this is a practical guide for wine lovers planning a Bordeaux wine tour or a Médoc wine tasting day trip — with visit prices, what to expect at each château, and honest recommendations on where to spend your time and money.

What you’ll see in this video:

The Margaux appellation is just 40 minutes from Bordeaux city centre and makes an ideal wine tour day trip.
